The Padel Hub in Slough
The Padel Hub is a brand new Padel and wellness hub, for Padel enthusiasts to enjoy. Named Berkshire’s Premium Indoor Padel Club. There are five vibrant state-of-the-art indoor Padel tennis courts for newbies, pros or those in search of a new sport to keep them active. As well as the courts, there is a spacious area with designated workspaces and hot desks (with free WiFi) and a cafe lounge, with treats courtesy on Heidi Bakery. There is also a children’s play area, a courtside gym and a brand new spin studio upstairs.
I went along to the launch on the 12th October 2023, and there was plenty going on. Free drinks and nibbles were offered and leading Padel players were there showing us how it’s done. There was also an opportunity to play, and there were professional Padel coaches on hand to explain the rules and give us tips.
There was also an exhibition match with Mauri Andrini (Director of The Hello Padel Academy), Migel Gascon, Sam Jones and Frankie Langan.
What is Padel?
Named ‘the future of tennis’ by The Times and declared to be ‘the biggest fitness trend’ by GQ, this growing sport is loved by major tennis stars, such as Andy Murray, Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal – and even the Prince and Princess of Wales have taken it up.
Padel is a fusion between tennis and squash. Doubles rule the roost, and the enclosed court – complete with glass walls and metallic mesh – sets the stage for the game. A stringless Padel racquet and a tennis ball is used, and the ball can bounce off any wall. But it’s a one-shot wonder on the turf before returning. The game is quick and strategic. However, during our time on the court, we were just getting the hang of our technique – and for me, keeping the ball inside the court!
It’s not a far cry from tennis as the scoring and rules are similar. But it’s less about strength and more about strategy. It’s great for anyone, any age – and my eight year old daughter really enjoyed it!
