Maidenhead Library 50th Anniversary

The Maidenhead Library, situated on St Ives Road, Maidenhead celebrates its 50th anniversary with a week of activities. From Monday 17th July 2023 to Saturday 23rd July 2023, there will be a range of workshops, talks, entertainment, kids crafts and more. With the main celebrations taking place on Friday 22nd July. There will also be a Wombles theme as they also celebrate 50 years!

Monday 17th July

The week kicks off with free Storytelling with children’s author Chip Colquhoun. Chip has been working with children around the world since 2007, and is the founder and lead storyteller at Epic Tales.

Between 2pm – 2:30pm there will be thirty minutes of story telling with Chip for under 5’s. Book your free ticket.

At 7:30pm there will be an author talk with Gill Hornby, who is the author of the novels ‘Miss Austen’, ‘The Hive’, ‘All Together Now’, and ‘Godmersham Park’. There will be a pid bar available. Book your free ticket.

Tuesday 18th July

On Tuesday at 7:30pm there will be a talk by Dr Clare Price called ‘Maidenhead Library: An Architectural Landmark’. You will be able to discover the story behind the innovative design of the Grade II listed building by architectural historian and Maidenhead resident Dr Clare Price. Paid bar available. Wednesday 19th July

Author talk with screenwriter and novelist Robert Thorogood at 7:30pm. He is the creator of the BBC1 murder mystery ‘Death in Paradise’. Robert is also the author of ‘The Marlow Murder Club’ and ‘Death Comes to Marlow’. Paid bar available. Book your free ticket.

Thursday 20th July

1973 Reminiscence Morning. There will be a sing-along with iconic songs from the 1970’s between 11am – 1pm. Plus a special visit from The Wombles. The library’s rhyme and story time group will provide interaction between multiple generations through song and dance. Light refreshments available. Book your free ticket.

At 4:30pm there will be a Children’s Author Workshop with Burchett & Vogler. Jan Burchett and Sara Vogler are a writing partnership with over two hundred books to their name. They are hosting a fun workshop aimed at all primary school children. Book your free ticket.

Then at 7:30pm join the Maidenhead Drama Guild and Windsor Theatre Guild as they present ‘Written in Blood – a Murder Mystery’ for a murder mystery evening. There is also a book signing by famous crime series author Godfrey Rickard. Book your free ticket.

Friday 21st July

Wombles Storytime, Crafts and 1970’s Games! A jam packed afternoon from 2pm – 5pm with fun for the children. Stories, arts and crafts, 1970’s games, facepainting, free icecream (between 2pm-3pm) and a visit from the Wombles. Book your free ticket.

The Vinyl Frontier: 1973 hosted by Jeff Lloyd will be at 6:30pm. Jeff will tell the story of 1973 through its tops hits – a fun and interactive entertaining evening. Paid bar provided by A Hoppy Place. Free 1970’s style snacks available. Book your free ticket.

Saturday 22nd July

Immersive Experiences bring their interactive dome for 4 – 11 year olds to explore, powered by amazing science and wizardry. Drop in sessions during library opening hours. Find out more.
