Lantern Parade in Maidenhead and Lantern Making Workshops

The Norden Farm Lantern Parade returns to Maidenhead town centre for The Carnival Of The Animals Lantern Parade, Take Flight! on Saturday 9th December 2023 between 4:30pm – 6:15pm. It’s free to join in.

The Carnival of the Animals Lantern Parade

The Lantern Parade kicks off at 4.30pm on St Ives Road with live music from Dhol Collective and performances from Leo’s Circus.

At 5pm, the parade departs from Maidenhead Town Hall with live music from Dhol Collective and The Royal Army Band, Sandhurst. There will be a host of beautiful handmade lanterns made from workshops, schools and community groups.

The theme of the parade of all things feathered will bring a joyful parade along Maidenhead’s streets. Leo’s circus will be joining in with the fun with their stilt walkers and hula hoop artists.

At 5:45pm – 6:15pm the live music and circus performances continue. Rio Deli cafe at the library will stay open late to provide warm drinks and snacks to parade goers.

There will be a relaxed area (teamed with The Autism Group) at the Maidenhead Library for quiet viewing. To book at space in the quiet area email jessica.thompson@nordenfarm.org

lantern making workshops at norden farm

Lantern Making Workshops

There will be Lantern Making workshops leading up to the parade to make your own lantern. Led by Same sky who are an award winning community arts charity.

Across two hours, weave an intricate animal-inspired willow frame, before covering and decorating your creation.

Workshops will be at Norden Farm, Altwood Road on Saturday 18th November at 10:30am – 12:30pm and 2pm – 4pm. And on Saturday 25th November at 10:30am – 12:30pm and 2pm – 4pm.  

These sessions are suitable for children over 6 years. £7 per person, pre-booking essential.

There will also be Lantern Making for Adults at Norden Farm on Saturday 2nd December, 10:30am – 12:30pm and 2pm – 4pm. Make a bigger lantern. Suitable for ages 17 and over.

Drop In Workshops in the Town Centre

There are also drop in Lantern Making workshops in the Nicholson Centre on Sunday 26th November, between 10:30am – 4pm. Suitable for ages 6 and over. £5 per session. Be carnival ready in just 20 minutes and drop in to create a simple willow and tissue lantern.

And on parade day, drop in at the Maidenhead Library on Saturday 9th December between 10:30am – 2pm. £5 per session.
