Jack and Alice Crafts Workshops

Rebecca Bennett runs Jack and Alice Crafts, from her home in Marlow and at other local venues. Her business was started in lockdown and is named after her two children. Rebecca runs dry needle felting craft workshops and ‘free machine embroidery’ workshops, which is also known as free hand sewing, where designs can be ‘drawn’ using the sewing machine.

Rebecca has 15 years of secondary school Art teaching experience, and she is now using her skills as a teacher to develop her workshops.

Her workshops are tailored to suit the individual. They can be at her home, at people’s houses, which is her ‘Fizz and Felt’ option, at Home Education groups, work socials, Hen Parties and children’s parties.

It is a craft which is suitable for beginners as well as those with experience. The subject matter tends to be seascapes or landscapes for the adult workshops and the children have created some very imaginative pieces based on artists, hearts, rainbows. The subject matter is very broad.

The pieces are created using the unique Art form of dry needle felting and are created by using different types of wool. Rebecca will warn you, it is addictive!!

(Please note, as you use a sharp needle children under 6 need parent/guardian supervision).

Rebecca’s Background

Rebecca has a background in art. She studied Fine Art and Sculpture at the University of Gloucestershire and went on to teach Art and Design to secondary school students for fifteen years.

Rebecca has been running workshops for groups, where designs are created from beginning to end, and then taken home. All materials are provided, including wool, frames, and tools. Rebecca gives guidance throughout in a relaxing environment.

She provides inspiration for creations, such as photos
and images. Or those attending can bring their own to work from. This could be a photo of a favourite beach or from a memorable holiday. No experience is needed, and gift vouchers are also available.

About Jack and Alice Crafts

You have a background in art and design. Have you always been creative?

I have always loved Art. I was always drawing and creating. I’m dyslexic, and I remember finding school (especially early years) very difficult. Art was always something I could achieve in and do. I was good at it and it felt natural.

When did you discover dry needle felting?

Just before lockdown I went on a workshop and loved it. I was fascinated by it and how you could create an image out of wool. Then lockdown happened and it was pushed to the back of my mind.

Do you think you may offer different kinds of art workshops in the future?

My main focus are my children’s parties and my ‘Fizz and Felt’ events. I have even taught felting in the woods! I am open to all sorts of venues!
