Chinese New Year Lion Dance Parade in Maidenhead
This year is the Year of the Dragon in the Chinese calendar, and the Eagle Claw Kung Fu School UK will be returning to the Maidenhead High Street for the annual Lion Dance parade.
The Eagle Claw Kung Fu School are the longest established Kung Fu school in Maidenhead. They have been operating full time since 1997, teaching traditional Chinese martial arts and activities.
The Lion Dance is performed in the town every year, as well as at community and private events. The Lion Dance parade on the High Street in Maidenhead is a free event enjoyed by all – often bringing in a large number of spectators to watch the spectacular show.
This year the Lion Dance Parade in Maidenhead will be on Saturday 10th February 2024 at 12:30pm, at the top of the High Street near the Boy and Boat statue.
Chinese New Year Events
This traditional cultural event includes drumming, vibrant lions and performances from 36 students from the school – led by Master Julian Dale. There is also something new this year which is being kept under wraps, to mark the Year of the Dragon.
There are more activities too, which will also take place on Saturday 10th to mark the Lunar New Year.
The Maidenhead Craft Coop will be hosting the first Craftisan’s craft market of the year in the Nicholsons Shopping Centre. The market will be there between 10am – 4pm.
In addition to this, there will be a FREE Lunar New Year kids craft session between 10:30am-12:30pm (it finishes in time for the start of the Lion Parade out on the high street). This is a drop-in session, so no booking required!
The Celebrations Continue
If you can’t make the Lion Parade in Maidenhead, then head over to Windsor, where the parade will take place there as well. It will start at 3pm in the Windsor Royal Station.
The Windsor Craft Coop also have free Saturday children’s crafts (Warm Space Windsor) at 10:30am-11:30am and 12pm – 1pm. These sessions must be pre-booked on the Craft Coop website.
